Who in their infinite wisdom decided that Snickers was a better name than Marathon?

Marathon meant something. Eat this chocolate bar and you'll get the energy, the stamina, the staying power you need to run a marathon! Yeah!

But what does (S)nickers mean?! The only image it conjures up for me is smelly flippin' nickers.
